The next day…

Isabella woke up in a hospital bed. Her head was pounding badly. She could barely open her eyes. IV needles were secured in the veins in her arms. The sunshine was far too bright and threatened a headache.

Just then, a nurse walked in. She was an older black lady who looked like she’d had a tough life, but she was pretty despite the worried expression that seemed to be permanent. She looked to be in her early forties with a nice shape for her age.

“Look who’s awake.” She smiled at Isabella, who didn’t have a clue as to how she’d gotten to a hospital.

“Could you close the blinds please?” Isabella asked as she attempted to shield her eyes from the sun that beamed brightly on her bruised face. She felt a bandage on her forehead.

“What happened to me? Why am I here?” she questioned the nurse.

“Well, honey, the story I got was that the paramedics found you at home, knocked out. You had a gash on your forehead and you seemed to have suffered from some blunt force trauma to the back of the head. It appears you had fallen down the stairs, at least that’s what it looked like. You were there alone right?”

“Yeah sure.” She looked around suspiciously.

“Are you sure? You know the police can protect you if you’re dealing with abuse.”

“Ma’am, I’m fine. I’m not being abused.” She frowned and turned away.

“Well, baby, I’m Nurse Karen and you can call me if you need anything. Isabella is such a beautiful name.” She smiled as she left the room.

“Wait!” Isabella stopped her. The nurse came back in. “Is my cell phone here?”

“Yes it is, let me get your belongings.” She went and retrieved Isabella’s Gucci bag from the closet in her hospital room.

“Here you go baby. Everything should be there.”

After the nurse exited the room she pulled her phone out, ignoring any texts or missed call notifications and scrolled through her contacts. Finding her dad’s name. She dialed his number.

“Hello, princess. I’m surprised to hear from you. You know you only call me for money.” Her Dad’s deep voice said into the phone.

“Dad, I’m in the hospital, because of Tony right now. This needs to stop.” She could barely speak.

“Isabella, what the hell happened? What hospital? I’m on my way there.”

“I think I’m at Hoag.” She groaned.

“I’ll be there as soon as I can Isabella.” She opted not to call or text anyone to tell them where she was.

This was too much to handle. She knew it would cause quite a stir if her affairs were outed in a hospital. On the other hand, they’d already be at the hospital.

A few hours later, her dad rushed into her hospital room out of breath, stirring her from her rest.

“I got here as soon as I could. Isabella, baby, the front desk didn’t give me much info, but if you can, tell me what happened.”

Her father hugged her and then pulled up his chair.

“Daddy, I honestly don’t remember much, but Tony did this.
